DIY MDF Wall Panelling
No Experience Needed!
Reading Time: 4-5 minutes
Wall panelling is one of the easiest ways to transform a room. From classic shaker styles to modern feature walls, MDF panelling creates a high-end look at a fraction of the cost of traditional timber — and it’s well within reach of most DIYers.
At Dorchester Timber, we supply everything you need to create professional-looking wall panelling, including standard MDF sheets, decorative mouldings, free cutting, and free delivery.
Why MDF Is Ideal for Wall Panelling
MDF is the go-to material for modern wall panelling — and for good reason:
Smooth, consistent surface that’s perfect for painting
Easy to cut, fix, and finish
More cost-effective than solid wood
No knots or grain showing through paint
Our standard MDF sheets are ideal for backing boards, shaker panels, and full feature walls, and can be cut down to size to suit your exact design.
Add Detail with Decorative Mouldings
Decorative mouldings are what really bring a panelling project to life. Whether you’re creating a traditional shaker wall, wainscoting, or a bold geometric design, mouldings add depth, definition, and character.
We stock a wide range of decorative MDF mouldings, suitable for:
Shaker-style wall panelling
Feature walls
Dado rails and framing
Traditional and modern interiors
Because our mouldings are MDF, they’re easy to paint and give a clean, crisp finish once installed.
Free MDF Cutting : Made to Measure
To make your project even easier, we offer free cutting on all MDF sheets.
That means:
Less mess at home
Faster installation
More accurate results
Just provide your measurements when ordering and we’ll cut the sheets to size, ready for fitting.
How to Create a Simple MDF Panelled Wall
1. Plan Your Layout
Decide on your panel design and measure your wall carefully. Mark out panel positions with a pencil and spirit level.
2. Fit the MDF Panels
Fix your MDF sheets or individual panel sections to the wall using grab adhesive. Use a level to keep everything straight.
3. Add Decorative Mouldings
Once the panels are secure, attach your mouldings to create frames or patterns. Again, adhesive works well, with pins if required.
4. Fill, Sand & Paint
Fill joints and fixing holes, sand smooth, then paint for a seamless, professional finish.
The Perfect Panelling Solution
By combining MDF sheets with decorative mouldings, you can achieve a bespoke, built-in look without bespoke prices. With free cutting and free delivery, Dorchester Timber makes wall panelling simple, affordable, and stress-free.
